Race

Many people think that racism does not exist but it does. Many people also think that we have broken a "glass ceiling" by putting Obama in office but we technically we have not elected a African-American president so I don't think we have broken anything. I think many people are still prejudice but I think they hide it more. I do not feel that in my life time or anytime soon that there will come a time when racism does not exist.

Gender

I thought that in the year 2009 we are suppose to all be equal but I think people left out gender inequality. I feel like females have less windows of opportunities then males do. Whenever I went to Hawaii this past summer my "poppy" aka my grandpa would be able to get people to give him cheaper prices at the Flea Market then I could get them to give me. I also feel that women get exploited I get tired of guys looking at girls and giving them looks and making comments its not polite and many girls do not like it. Me and my boyfriend Jeremy went to the beach for our anniversary in April and we were walking down the strip of Myrtle Beach and these guys yell at me and make a comment about my breast. You never hear guys getting yelled at and I don't think its fair.

Reality TV

Reality TV! Do I need to say anymore? Don't get me wrong I love to watch crazy scripted people on TV just like anyone else but the shows are getting more outrageous. The Bad Girls Club why cant we have a show called The Good Girls Club? I think we as Americans LOVE drama. We just cant wait to turn on our TV and see who is going slap who this week and who can cuss the loudest. Heidi and Spencer who care that they got married people marry dirt bags everyday. Whats the big deal?

Infant Killed

I just read a article on FOX News website http://www.foxnews.com/us/index.html about this guy that threw his ex-girlfriends baby out of a window onto a highway. Stuff like this just makes me sick! How could someone possibly kill a innocent child, people like this do not need to be walking our streets. To me it seems like more and more children are turning up missing and later found dead. Our world just seems so unsafe and makes me thank God that I'm so blessed.

Miss USA

Miss California Carrie Prejean was runner-up to the crown of Miss USA this past April. Many people including herself believe that was not crowned Miss USA due to the answer she gave to her on-stage interview question. Her question basically asked her if she believed that same sex marriage should be legal in all 50 states. Miss California replied with a very wordy NO! Being a pageant girl means that you are a part of a industry that gays and lesbians are welcomed in to with open arms. If she wanted to win the pageant then why say what she did? Lie! She is very admirable for speaking how she believed but she should have thought a little more about it. I personally do not care if same sex marriage is legal, I think that is between those people and their God. I do not feel like it should be any ones business who marries who!

Abuse

If it is often okay for a woman to put her hands on a man. Why is it such a big deal when a man hits a woman? If I were to hit my boyfriend many people would not worry about it but if he were to hit me then it would different. I think that people should be treated the same and if I hit him I should have some kind punishment. Maybe men don't report it because they are scared what their friends will think like the are weak or something like that. But women and men should have the same kind of consequences.

freedom

I feel as a female I have more restriction then I would if I were male. If I want to go out somewhere my mom never wants me to go by myself and calls me 100x when I do go. One time I went to Wal-mart and I didn't answer she called Wal-mart and had me paged I turned so red. I was so mad with her I didn't want to talk to her ever again. Females are always in the news being messed with not very often are males.

Many low-income countries have less freedoms then we do. We have the right to a free education, many people get to go to college for free. We have the freedom of religion and freedom of speech and the birth right to vote. Many things we forget we could not have.

The more I find out about other societies the more blessed I'm to be an American. I may forget to be thankful for everything I have but I need to learn to be more thankful for what I have and don't have. I need to be happy with what I have and not be worried about getting what I don't need.

Text messages

My mom is always saying "do you not know how to talk on the phone". I prefer to text and probably just about everyone else my age. Sure my mom text too and even my grandma after I taught her. I would rather text someone then call then is that a bad thing? I don't think so I think it is easier then talking on the phone to someone. You don't have answer them, or you can answer when you feel like it. My boyfriend and I text all day we would not be able to talk on the phone to each other all day. I'm in school and he is at work so it makes so much easier to talk and see what each other is up to.

Credit Cards

When I was 16 I went to Disney World, we usually go every year for Martin Luther King Holiday. When we walked through the gate there were people their getting people to sign up for credit cards, if you signed up then you received a free bag with Disney on it. I asked my mom if I could sign up knowing I wasn't old enough she said no. But I did it anyways. I put a fake birthday so I could get the bag and didn't put my social down, about two weeks later I received in the mail a credit card from them. That just shows why Teens are more likely to be in debt they sign up just to get what ever it is they are giving away. So I had a 500 dollar spending limit and boy did I max it out. Well, I didn't pay it so now my credit pretty much sucks if I could go back I would never have signed up for it. Now they bill is so high I cant afford to pay it.

Teens having babies

Teens getting pregnant is on the rise, since when has been okay to talk about sex have 15 yr old girl get pregnant on TV. The Secret Life of an American Teenager. I feel that by showing some of those things it may make other kids their age want to go out and have sex maybe even unprotected sex. Though it may have some good morals it still has horrible things happening in it. I see both sides to it, its not somethings kids need to see on TV and it could stop or encourage the behavior that is happening on the show. I know it wasnt created to make more kids go out and have sex, but some kids many feel it will make them "cool" or make them fit-in. Personally I hope when I have kids that show is no longer on TV. Nothing against the purpose of the show but many people take it the wrong way. I have watched it but I'm old enough to be able to make decisions and know what could happen. The kids that watch the show are not, they are not fully developed they dont relize the risk other than getting pregnant there are also STDs. They dont think long-term.

Cell Phones

For many people cell phones are a part of our daily lives, even children have cell phones. I remember my first cell phone it was HUGE! I was in the 5th grade and it was a trac-fone. Finally later my mom got me a real phone after she knew I was accountable and responsible for it. But now phones are tiny and can do things better then computers, well thats because they are computers. We are all about technology more technical the better, but would we or I consider that part of our culture. When I pick up my phone every morning before I get out bed I dont view it as culture. It is though, it falls into many different catergories that define culture. Its a value or belief, everyone thinks they need a blackberry or htc or etc. Why does a 11 yr kid need to have a blackberry they dont! We think we need the latest and hottest phone. When really the cheap ones probably work just as good if not better.

Childhood

How you are treated while you grow up carries with you through adulthood. The social behavior we are taught seems those are the same ones we teach our children. My mom, grandma and myself seem to all be mirrored images of each other. We all have the same values, beliefs and moral ethics. It seems we butt heads and don't get along sometimes but its because we are so alike. The way my grandma raised my mom is the same way my mom raised me. Although we may not do this knowingly we do. So one day when I have children I will probably teach them all the things my mom taught me.

Personal Character

In many studies it shows that our personalities can be influenced by many different aspects. Being born first, middle, last or being the only born plays a big role on how someone acts. For me I believe this to be true, I'm the only child. I will say I feel that I fit the stereotype of a only child. Spoild, yes. That does not make me a bad person. My uncle the last born fits the role like it was made just for him. He does only what he feels like has no regard to anyone else. Gets in trouble and doesn't care who he hurts in the end. With that said many of you will find your personality is formed on how and when your born. Discover your inner self.
